Pest Control in Midhurst

Midhurst is estate-lot residential immediately north of Barrie, and its defining characteristic for our purposes is mature tree cover close to large houses.

Trees against the roof

Squirrels and raccoons need a route to the roof, and an overhanging limb is the easiest one available. Midhurst has more mature trees within jumping distance of a roofline than anywhere else we work. Combined with large roof areas, multiple rooflines meeting at complex junctions, and the soffit and vent configurations that come with them, it produces the highest wildlife exclusion volume per property of any area on this list.

The single most effective preventive measure here is trimming limbs back roughly two metres from the roof. It is cheaper than exclusion and it works, and we will say so on an inspection rather than only quoting the removal.

Carpenter ants and big decks

Large properties here tend to have large decks, and deck ledger boards are the most reliable chronically damp structural wood on a residential building. That is exactly what carpenter ants nest in. Add mature landscaping holding moisture against the foundation and stumps or woodpiles on the lot as parent nest sites, and Midhurst produces a steady flow of carpenter ant work.

As always with this pest, the treatment addresses the ants and the moisture source is the actual problem. If nobody has pointed at where the water is coming from, the ants will be back.

Septic and rodents

Most Midhurst properties are on septic. A failing or disturbed septic system, and the vent and access points that go with it, occasionally becomes a rodent route that nobody thinks to check. It is a small category but it is one of those problems that persists indefinitely until someone looks in the right place.
